Workforce Development Alliances

View our Key Principles For A Sustainable Construction Workforce

AGC Georgia is committed to leading our industry's efforts in addressing our workforce shortage by establishing a network of regional alliances throughout the state. The first workforce development alliance was established in Macon in 2007.

Today seven AGC Georgia regional workforce alliances are fully operational including:
Southwest Georgia Workforce Development Alliance or SWGWDA – Albany
Central Georgia Workforce Development Alliance or CGWDA – Macon
South Georgia Workforce Development Alliance or SGWDA – Valdosta
East Georgia Workforce Development Alliance or EGWDA – Augusta
Southeast Georgia Workforce Development Alliance or SEGWDA – Savannah
Metro Atlanta Workforce Development Alliance (including the following sub-alliances)
                   Atlanta Tech
                  Cobb Workforce Partnership
                  Southern Crescent Workforce Development Alliance
                  Gwinnett Workforce Development Alliance
Northeast Georgia Workforce Development Alliance or NEGWDA - Commerce
Additional alliances are under development for the Columbus region in west central Georgia and northwest Georgia.

Our workforce development alliances are designed to bring Chapter members together with students, high school counselors and construction program teachers, school officials, and instructors from construction programs at technical colleges. The focus of regular meetings and activities is to open up a dialogue that will address mutual needs and develop opportunities for exposing more young people to the construction industry.

Alliance efforts to date have resulted in an increase in the number of construction career fairs convened around the state, support for the MAGIC Camp program focused on mentoring girls in construction, more construction materials and resources delivered to students and instructors, and strengthening of local programs so they can teach students marketable skills.

Chapter members take an active role in providing funds to support the various educational activities embraced by the alliances. They also contribute materials, volunteer employees, host career fair booths, demonstrate use of construction equipment, provide speakers, and host student field trips on construction jobsites.

If you and your firm are interested in getting involved with one or more of these alliances, watch for upcoming meeting dates in the Chapter’s weekly newsletter or contact Bill Chambless, Member Development Specialist, at 478.972.5865 or Chambless@agcga.org.
