Managing Expectations

Are you ready to get back to normal? We are!
As we all begin looking ahead to the summer, AGC Georgia is excited to offer an Annual Convention. We're working hard to find the most practical ways to bring our membership together. It's important to us to produce an event that will result in an enjoyable experience for those who attend. We want to be transparent on what we hope to offer and what we are unable to control. After reviewing this information, we hope you, your family and your co-workers will consider joining us for a great line-up of activities in Ponte Vedra.

We are encouraged to see vaccines becoming more readily available and declining COVID cases, but we understand the pandemic isn't over. While the resort has protocols they are adhering to and we will benefit from those guidelines, we want to share some of our plans for the Annual Convention and help you make an informed decision on whether you want to participate. Perhaps the biggest question most of you will have - AGC Georgia will not require participants to wear masks. By mid-June, all adults in Georgia will have the opportunity to be vaccinated. We will respect everyone's choice on whether they care to wear a mask or not.

We are exploring options of hosting several gatherings outside. However, it's important to remember coastal weather is unpredictable and some of those best made plans may not come to fruition. We are also working to find ways for those who prefer to not have several of our breakfasts with the larger group, to enjoy a meal in various locations on property before we start morning programs. We are also looking at ways to minimize passing of awards between presenters and honorees during ceremonies. The list goes on and on and should you have specific questions, please reach out to our team. We share this sampling of ideas we are exploring to help you get a better idea of what to expect.

If we miss you this time because you aren't quite ready for large events, we understand and respect your decision. It just means it'll be that much sweeter when we see you down the road at another one of our events when you are ready to join in!

Guest Speaker

Green Beret Commander Mark Nutsch
As portrayed by actor Chris Hemsworth in the major motion picture, 12 Strong, Mark Nutsch (aka Mitch Nelson in the film) shares lessons learned in the now-declassified saga of a U.S. Special Forces team that overcame seemingly insurmountable odds to help achieve a historic military victory. The film is based on the best-selling book Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton.

Mark Nutsch shares the true-life story of helping lead what is considered the most successful unconventional warfare campaign in modern history, a victory that changed the course of our country and the world. In October 2001, Nutsch led a heroic 12-man team of U.S. Special Forces on a covert mission to Afghanistan, where they would ride to war on horses to fight the enemy—side by side with their Muslim counterparts—capture the strategic city of Mazar-i-Sharif within a matter of weeks, and successfully overthrow the Taliban. Now a consultant to Special Operations Command, he earned a Bronze Star with valor for his bravery.

On stage, Nutsch enthralls audiences with an edge-of-your-seat, behind-the-scenes account of how this almost unbelievable event played out and impacted the world. He also shares perspectives on preparing his team of “guerrilla diplomats” for ever-evolving on-the-ground circumstances, and how resourcefulness, inventiveness, and commitment, along with adaptability, a diverse team, and a capacity to persevere enabled them to successfully accomplish their mission.

Business registrants are allowed to attend this event during Tuesday morning's Awards Program. Registration is required for this event and will be adhered to.

Welcome from AGC Georgia President David Moody

I'm looking forward to a great convention in Ponte Vedra, and I hope you, your colleagues and your family will make plans to join us.

Our golf tournament always gets us started, and this year it will take place at 9:00 am on Sunday, June 13. Make sure you plan your arrival for Saturday if you plan to play in the tournament. Later on Sunday, we'll reconvene for our Welcome Party. All members and their families are invited, we'll even have dedicated children's activities available. It's going to be casual and FUN!

All business registrants are invited to gather on Monday morning for our Annual Meeting and ladies who are not attending the business meeting are invited to the Ladies Brunch. Later this evening, attendees are encouraged to explore the area and have dinner on their own. Young Leadership Program and Executive Alliance members are invited to their respective dinners at the resort on Monday evening.

On Tuesday morning, we'll host our award ceremony and recognize the best of the best construction projects built by our member contractors and present corporate safety awards. The Annual Dinner closes the convention on Tuesday evening.

Immediately following the closing dinner, please plan to join us for a fun After Party!  This will be a great way to close out what's shaping up to be a fantastic convention! Can't wait to see you and your family on the coast!

Ladies attending the Annual Convention who do not wish to attend the Business session on Monday, June 14 are invited to for brunch with Karla Moody. Amanda Wilbanks, founder of Southern Baked Pie Company of Gainesville, GA, will be the keynote speaker.
