About the Course
OSHA requires a contractor to have a competent person on-site to qualify for Focused Inspection. This safety course is designed to help contractors develop safety and health competent persons for their job sites.
The competent person will learn to recognize potential hazards in construction before an incident occurs. Individuals will also be able to identify and implement abatement techniques for hazards found on job sites.

- Electrical safety Hand and power tool safety
- Personal protective equipment
- Heavy equipment safety
- Fire prevention and protection
- Hazard communication
- Recordkeeping
- OSHA’s Focused Inspection Initiative
Meet Your Instructor - Marty Leak
Marty provides extensive environmental, health and safety (EHS) service in general industry and commercial (and residential) construction. He provides instruction at Georgia Tech OSHA Training Institute (GT OTI) as an affiliate instructor for the OSHA 500, 502, and 510. He supports clients needs through immense experience (10+ years in commercial construction), technical knowledge, and a robust network of recognized professional resources. Marty is a Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and holds a bachelor's degree Industrial Engineering Technology from Kennesaw State University along with a Systems Engineering Certificate from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterrey, CA. He is a former US Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician with 10+ years in the unexploded ordnance (UXO) industry working for federal clients.
