About the Course
OSHA requires a contractor to have a competent person on-site to qualify for Focused Inspection. This safety course is designed to help contractors develop safety and health competent persons for their job sites.

The competent person will learn to recognize potential hazards in construction before an incident occurs. Individuals will also be able to identify and implement abatement techniques for hazards found on job sites.

The following topics are covered during the in-class training:

  • Fall protection Excavation and trenching safety
  • Electrical safety Hand and power tool safety
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Heavy equipment safety
  • Fire prevention and protection
  • Hazard communication
  • Recordkeeping
  • OSHA’s Focused Inspection Initiative

Meet Your Instructor: Philip Greisen, CIT, CHST  
Philip is a vice president and senior consultant for PROSAFE Solutions, Inc. and a seasoned safety professional with excellent presentation skills. He is a Certified Industrial Trainer (CIT) and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Philip is also a certified John Maxwell Leadership Trainer and Coach.

Philip serves as course director and adjunct faculty for several OSHA Training Institute courses at Georgia Tech including the OSHA 510, OSHA 500 (trainer course), OSHA 3015 Excavation and Soil Mechanics course, and the OSHA 502 update course. He also developed and instructs the EST 7139 Foundations of Safety Leadership course.

He has been employed with PROSAFE Solutions since July of 2000. In addition to providing safety training and consulting services for clients he has been integral in the development and facilitation of the PROSAFE safety culture assessment process. Philip’s greatest passions are in leadership development, human performance, and culture improvement efforts.
