Go Build Georgia Statewide Campaign

For the last few years, AGC Georgia has partnered with Governor Nathan Deal and the Go Build Georgia campaign to increase awareness for recruiting more skilled workers into the trades. This effort, developed out of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development, is designed to educate young people on the value of learning a trade, dispel misconceptions about the skilled trade industry, and inspire them to consider building a career as a skilled tradesperson.

Through a public awareness effort, public relations and social media campaigns, Go Build Georgia aims to provide better opportunities for craft tradepersons, more highly skilled employees for companies, and enhanced economic development for Georgia and the nation.

Go Build Georgia high school teams, each staffed with a school administrator, teacher and counselor, are working together to get schools engaged in this effort.  AGC Georgia is helping to facilitate the involvement of Chapter members working near these schools to become partners, lending their support and expertise.   We are also helping to coordinate some of the Chapter’s ongoing workforce alliance efforts with this statewide campaign to achieve opportunities with greater impact.

Mike Dunham, the Chapter’s CEO, and Mike Kenig, Vice Chairman, Holder Construction Company, were appointed by Governor Deal to serve on the Go Build Georgia Advisory Council, representing our member firms’ and industry best interests as this statewide campaign continues to evolve. Many members contribute their time and financial support to this program.

“One of my priorities as Governor is to address our workforce development issues including the anticipated shortage of skilled trade workers that will significantly impact the future viability of the construction industry in our state. With this in mind, I announced the Go Build Georgia initiative in January 2012 designed to help introduce and excite young people about careers in the skilled trades. Thanks to AGC Georgia and your members for being an early supporter of this initiative and providing my office with help in rolling it out in every region in Georgia.”
