Intermediate Blueprint Reading

This course, designed as a follow up to Basic Blueprint Reading, offers a detailed analysis of blueprints. Attendees from various trades benefit from additional experience and knowledge gained in the 16-hour course. Students learn to assess plans and details, verify dimension, review plan notes, specifications, and learn how to coordinate various trades on the jobsite.

After completion of the course, students:
  • Understand how to fin the proper details and wall section, and verify correct dimensions
  • Learn to spot conflicts and omission in the construction plan set and how to resolve inconsistencies in the plans
  • Gain confidence in reading construction blueprints for estimating and material take off and checking dimension
  • accurately read and interpret prints for greater productivity
  • Learn to anticipate/plan the next specialty contractors' needs
Who should attend:  Students who have completed Basic Blueprint Reading or those with a basic knowledge of construction prints

**Bring a scientific calculator to class.
**If you have taken AGC Georgia's Basic Blueprint course, bring your book titled "Print Reading for Construction - Residential and Commercial" by Brown and Dorfmueller (8th Edition)
**If you do NOT have the above referenced textbook, be sure to purchase it from AGC Georgia when you register for this course.

**Registrants need to bring a yellow highlighter and an architectural scale to class.**

Meet Your Instructor - Dr. Lantz Holtzhower, Assistant Professor at Kennesaw State University

Dr. Holtzhower completed his Ph.D. in Construction Management at the M.E. Rinker, Sr. School of Building Construction in Gainesville, Florida at the University of Florida under the direction of Dr. Robert Ries and Dr. Charles Kibert. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the ConstructionManagement department at Kennesaw State University. He has taught at the university level for 9 years and is heavily involved in student competitions, industry events with AGC Georgia, and student success. Courses that he's taught include Construction Scheduling, Estimating and Project Management.

Dr. Holtzhower also holds a Master’s degree in Building Construction and a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, both from the University of Florida.  He has 9 years of professional construction experience including commercial construction management, electrical contracting, and management experience with a fire protection contractor.  The wide variety of projects includes a flagship institutional project, several municipal projects, K12 projects, office buildings, residential amenities, and agricultural storage warehouses.  He is a licensed Certified Building Contractor in the State of Florida and has passed the National Association of State Contractors Licensing Agencies (NASCLA) exam for Georgia and surrounding state licenses.

AGC Georgia reserves the right to cancel programs up to 7 days prior to the start date if a minimum number of attendees is not met.
