A basic overview of construction law for young leaders in the construction industry
presented by Phil Parham, Baker Donelson

The goal of any construction project is to complete the project on time, at or under budget, and to the satisfaction of the owner.  To do this, those working on the project—general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors—must perform their jobs in conformance with their respective contracts.  Accordingly, leaders in the field must have a basic understanding of their rights and obligations under their contracts and under Georgia law—especially when things don’t go as planned.  This program is designed to give young leaders in the construction industry a basic overview of key topics in construction law that will allow them to manage their projects in conformance with their contracts and in a way that protects their employers.  Some of the topics that will be discussed by Phil Parham, a construction litigation attorney at Baker Donelson, are:
• Key provisions in construction contracts
• Georgia’s Prompt Payment Act
• Georgia’s lien laws – What to know
• What to do when things go wrong
• Best practices for protecting your company
