Throughout this 7-part regional Members First series, our Director of Safety Services, Rob McKinney, will present the Amerson Supervisor Safety Award certificates to the best of the best field supervisors.

During the series, he’ll also spotlight one of our association’s top priorities, advancing safety best practices, including helping member contractors better understand the benefits of implementing principles of human performance in their safety culture.

Human error is often identified as cause of many accidents and near miss events. However, human error is the beginning point rather than the end point in truly understanding both accident causation and safety performance.

Rob plans to challenge you to consider whether you believe people choose to make errors through willful misconduct or whether you can embrace that each of us are fallible human beings who make mistakes every day, even every hour. If we lean into the latter, it requires us to also analyze systems that jobsite workers are asked to work within and accept that people achieve high levels of performance through encouragement and reinforcement, which speaks to a company’s leadership culture.

Join in this thought-provoking discussion to discover new ways to create systems that reduce human errors and help make it safer for workers to fail.
