2010 Legislative Report - Week 1

Session Begins, AGC Awaiting Committee Assignments

Monday, January 11th marked the beginning of the 2010 Georgia General Assembly. As predicted, David Ralston (Blue Ridge, GA) was elected Speaker of the House of Representatives. The new House leadership team is currently in the process of determining who will chair each committee and which legislators will be assigned to each committee. This process should be completed by next week.

Georgia Branch, AGC members and Chapter staff participated in the Georgia Chamber of Commerce's annual Eggs & Issues breakfast on Tuesday, January 12 at the Georgia World Congress Center. Approximately 2,700 attendees heard Speaker Ralston, Lt. Governor Cagle and Governor Perdue confirm that the state's budget, water and transportation are the primary areas of concern in the coming weeks under the Gold Dome.

Please watch for more reports in this e-newsletter as the Session moves through the early formalities and begins debating Georgia's pressing issues.
