2005 Annual Convention Highlights

Special Recognitions During Convention


Doug Bodenhamer, President of Capital Construction Co. was presented with the Georgia Branch, AGC's highest honor, the Skill, Integrity and Responsibility (SIR) Award during annual convention. The award was established as a way to honor a person who made a substantial contribution to the construction industry while exemplifying Skill, Integrity and Responsibility. Doug was president of the chapter during the 1987-1988 term and has volunteered numerous hours of his time and industry knowledge to the association over the past 25 years. Pictured with Doug are (l) Sam Hunter, AGC of America President and (r) Chapter President Chris Sheridan. A $1000 check was presented to Sam for the AGC's Education Foundation in honor of Doug's career.


Chris R. Sheridan (l) of Chris R. Sheridan & Company in Macon, GA was installed as President of the Georgia Branch, AGC for the 2005-2006 term during the association's recent convention which was held in Sandestin, Florida at the Hilton.

During the Annual Convention, Georgia Branch, AGC announced the winners of the 2005 Build Georgia Awards Program. Pictured are the many excited team members from wonderful projects throughout the state. Georgia Branch, AGC members with exceptional safety records are recognized during the convention each year on Saturday morning at the Awards Breakfast. This group of General Contractor members were honored with and Georgia Branch, AGC Safety Award for Zero Incidents Rates on their firm's jobsite during 2004. Thursday Evening's Beach Party Blowout

  Georgia Branch, AGC Members were treated to a never ending seafood buffet on the resort's pool deck overlooking the ocean during the opening event on Thursday evening, May 12.
  During the Thursday night event, guests were invited to eat while enjoying music from a local Buffet style band.

Phil Beck, Smith Currie & Hancock; Scott Shelar, CEFGA; and Jerry Anderson, Anderson Construction Company participated in the evening's party.

  Vicki Blahut and Julie Gardner enjoyed the endless Seafood Buffet and great music throughout the evening.
  Mark and Stacey Propes, CEMEX, took a break from normal busy days to relaxed during convention.

Friday Sessions and Activities

Georgia Branch, AGC members took part in an informational session on Friday morning. Speakers from the national office of the AGC included, AGC of America CEO Steve Sandherr, AGC of America President Sam Hunter, Chief Economist for the AGC Ken Simonson. Local issues of interest were addressed by Scott Shelar, executive director of the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia and Mark Woodall, Georgia Branch, AGC's Director of Governmental Affairs.

The ladies in attendance were given an opportunity to network and have breakfast together during Friday morning. Many took advantage of complimentary mini-massages offered during the session by the hotel's spa staff. Jean Nix, Nix-Fowler Constructors; Lucy Pellicano, Pellicano Company; and Jackie Moody, Batson-Cook Co. were all lucky winners of spa treatments that were given as door prizes for those in attendance.

Saturday Activities

Before the Saturday night dinner, where Chris R. Sheridan was installed as the 2005-2006 Chapter President and Doug Bodenhamer received the SIR Award, the members gathered for a cocktail reception.

During the week, Georgia Branch, AGC hosted a Golf Tournament, and members from the first place team were: Olin Hackney, Matt Long and Skip Eberling of Duffey Southeast, Inc.

The winners from the convention's tennis tournament were: Phil Beck, Smith Currie & Hancock - 2nd Place Men's; Brian Perry, Sterling Risk Advisors - 1st Place Men's; Kelly Perry, 1st Place Women's; and Dana Dunham, New South Construction Company - 2nd Place Women's.
