Member firms benefit from AGC’s efforts to closely monitor activities at the state and federal level to insure less regulation and a powerful, collective voice in government. Protecting the interests of contractors and the commercial construction industry is the focus of dedicated, full-time AGC staff and lobbyists employed by Georgia Branch, AGC and AGC of America. Chapter members gain peace of mind by eliminating the need for their individual firms to employ and incur the cost of this type of 24/7 watchdog. During each session of the Georgia General Assembly, members are kept fully informed via weekly updates on what is happening and pending legislation affecting the construction industry.
Chapter staff keep members apprised of new and pending regulations, and new laws and policies that can impact the way they conduct their business to insure compliance and avoid penalties. In many instances, members take advantage of the Chapter’s training programs needed to understand and conform to new or changing laws.
Georgia Branch, AGC develops position statements and executes strategy on issues impacting contractor members and those firms supporting the construction industry. With the help of representatives of member firms who volunteer their time and energies, the Legislative Committee is an active part of developing the Chapter's position on various important legislative and regulatory issues. Their input helps keep Georgia Branch, AGC on top of industry needs.
The Chapter maintains a well-funded and well-managed Political Action Committee (PAC) supporting legislative candidates seeking election to the Georgia General Assembly and statewide office. Candidates for each position are researched to identify those who are supportive of the construction industry and Georgia Branch, AGC’s pro-business legislative agenda. Member contributions to the PAC fund are voluntary.
Together with the Georgia Chapters of American Institute of Architects (AIA) and America Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), Georgia Branch, AGC co-hosts the annual Building Georgia Legislative Reception bringing members of these respective organizations together with elected and appointed state officials and legislators. This unique opportunity helps educate state leaders on the importance of our respective industry’s contributions to Georgia’s economy and quality of life.
