What Do They Do for AGC Members?

Learn about Georgia Branch, AGC's 236 Club, which honors members for donations to the Chapter's PAC

CONTRACTORS ARE ASKING...

WHAT IS THE GEORGIA BRANCH, AGC/PAC AND WHAT DOES IT DO?
It's the Political Action Committee for the Georgia Branch, AGC, collecting voluntary contributions from concerned contractors, subcontractors, and construction related firms for use in making political contributions to candidates for the Georgia General Assembly.

MAY I USE CORPORATE/COMPANY FUNDS?
Absolutely! This is one of the tremendous advantages that State PACs enjoy over Federal PACs. A contribution to the Georgia Branch, AGC/PAC should not be considered a cost, but rather a beneficial business investment in better Georgia government.

WHY DOES THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY NEED A PAC?
Legislative actions have a major impact on the construction industry. It is important to elect members to the Georgia General Assembly who are willing to listen objectively to our concerns, understand them and act accordingly. Our opponents on important business issues are powerful. They spend big money to elect candidates who do not share our values and concerns and will fight our efforts to protect the construction industry.

IS IT LEGAL?
Yes. The Georgia Branch, AGC/PAC is registered with the Georgia Secretary of State's Office and files monthly reports of all receipts and candidate contributions. These reports become part of the public record at the State Ethics Commission and are available for inspection.

ISN'T THIS MERELY BUYING POLITICIANS' VOTES?
Absolutely not! Most candidates and office holders are honorable people whose votes are not for sale. If they are going to be in a position to listen to our concerns, however, they must first get elected, and that is an expensive process. Those who receive Georgia Branch, AGC/PAC contributions are made aware that the contribution is from a constituent group of contractors and their associates who recognize their common interest in many public policy issues that affect their lives.

WHY SHOULD I CONTRIBUTE TO AGC/PAC WHEN I ALREADY SUPPORT LOCAL CANDIDATES CLOSER TO HOME?
Continue to support your local candidates - it's also important. However, actions at the state level have direct impact on you and your business. The Georgia Branch, AGC/PAC gives you an opportunity to have a greater impact on state elections through pooling resources and dealing from a position of strength.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE?
That's totally up to you. Contribution levels range from $100 to $1,000. It is a personal decision and you should contribute an amount you are comfortable with. All contributions are useful and welcome.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GIVE?
Now! Contributions are invited and accepted throughout the year.

WHO DECIDES WHICH CANDIDATES RECEIVE SUPPORT?
AGC Contractors. The Georgia Branch, AGC/PAC is governed by a board of Contractor Trustees. These volunteers seek Georgia Branch, AGC member input before making a contribution decision.

WHAT CRITERIA MUST A CANDIDATE MEET TO RECEIVE SUPPORT?
The Trustees of the Georgia Branch, AGC/PAC look at voting records and committee assignments, if the candidate is an incumbent, philosophical agreement on a majority of AGC issues, viability of the campaign, and of utmost importance, local contractor support.

HOW MUCH IS GIVEN TO EACH CANDIDATE?
Contributions to House and Senate candidates range anywhere from $200 - $2,000 per two-year election cycle.

HOW MUCH ARE PACs ALLOWED TO CONTRIBUTE TO A CANDIDATE?
Candidates for statewide office such as Governor and Lt. Governor are eligible to receive $6,000 per two year election cycle. State House and Senate members are eligible to receive $2,000 per election year cycle.

WHEN ARE CONTRIBUTIONS GIVEN TO CANDIDATES?
The majority of the Georgia Branch, AGC/PAC contributions are given after the qualifying deadline in July of the election year. We occasionally, financially support an appropriate fund raising activity prior to qualifying.

CAN I SELECT MY OWN CANDIDATES?
Yes. Any Georgia Branch, AGC/PAC contributor may recommend a specific candidate for the Georgia Branch, AGC/PAC Trustees' review and if the candidate meets the evaluation criteria noted above, the contribution will be made.

WHO DELIVERS THE CHECKS?
AGC contractors and AGC staff. Checks are prepared and hand delivered in the candidates home district with a handshake and best wishes for a successful campaign.
