If you dig, or if your project has a four-foot or deeper foundation, basement or excavation work, your employees and subcontractors are subject to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's excavation regulations that require a "competent person" on your job site at all times while an excavation is open with persons present. 36 American workers lost their lives in construction-related trench collapses in 1998. For every one that died, another 50 suffered serious injuries, such as broken bones and internal organ damage, caused by the crushing weight of the falling earth. This course educates individuals on the proper procedures for before, during, and after trenching and excavation, while meeting OSHA's requirements for a "competent person." This course is approved by the State Licensing Board for Utility Contractors.
The course covers the following topics:
- Soil classification
- Sloping and benching
