South & Southwest Georgia Skills Challenge

View Full Details

In the fall of 2017, AGC Georgia’s regional Workforce Development Alliances hosted Skills Challenges in Augusta, Gainesville, Griffin and Moultrie. These four events allowed more than 420 students to compete, representing 54 high schools, in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, welding, A/V production and Team Works.

Each of these events helped prepare students who competed in their regional SkillsUSA event in January 2018. Winners of the regional events moved on to the state SkillsUSA competitions in March 2018 at the Georgia International Convention Center.  Overall, the 2017 challenges drew nearly 800 student observers and dozens of influencers. Many of these students were observers and plan to compete in this year's events. Helping make these events a huge success are the more than $114,000 in contributions made to the AGC Georgia Foundation by approximately 200 industry firms.

For the 2018 Skills Challenge hosted in Moultrie, construction students will compete in Blueprint Reading, Carpentry, Electrical, Masonry, Plumbing, and Welding to see what school will earn bragging rights.
